This questionnaire will help you determine which element is best suited for you.ġ. Benders' personalities vary depending on which element they bend. Originally, Sokka was going to be 13, but was aged up as well.Īvatar: The Last Airbender is a show where humans can bend the elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Sokka is shown to use both his hands to attack or write. (Sokka is one of the main characters in the show) Sokka's name is derived from the Japanese phrase (here presented in Romaji) Sou ka, meaning "I Understand", which is a reference to his abilities as technologist and scientist, the use of understanding. Originally, Katara was supposed to be 12, but was aged up to 14 after people suggested it. (She saw both Avatar Roku and Avatar Kyoshi manifest themselves through Aang and she was good friends with both Avatar Aang and Korra). Katara is the only one of two people ( excluding the Avatars) who has personally seen 4 Avatars in her lifetime. Katara was the first character (excluding the opening scene of each episode) to be shown bending an element, which in her case, was water.
The word "Avatar" is derived from the sanskrit word for "those who descend" This would be how I envision the beginning of the episode that highlights Iroh's past.Īang, written in Chinese, means "peaceful soaring", which relates to his non-violent, airbending nature.Īang's premature departure from Avatar training in order to rescue Katara, mirrors Luke Skywalker's impulsive decision to go and rescue his friends in Cloud City while training with Yoda.Īang is 112 years old chronologically, but is biologically 12 as he was frozen in an ice block for 100 years. The scene cuts to the Fire Nation Capital. Iroh: NO! I refuse to talk about my past! Zuko: Uncle please! I know it is painful to talk about Lu Ten, but I feel it would get me closer to you and maybe even make me a more understanding person. Now, have some of this delicious jasmine tea! Iroh: I don't like to recall those memories. Zuko: I have been wondering, what was your life like before the siege of Ba Sing Se? And what was Lu Ten like? I rarely saw him when I was little.
Zuko wakes up, and goes into the kitchen, seeing Iroh making jasmine tea. A close-up shot of Iroh and Zuko's apartment. I imagine the scene would transpire like this: Iroh responds with a "yes" and begins to tell his story. The episode would start with Zuko asking Iroh a little bit about his son, Lu Ten and his life before the failure at Ba Sing Se. I actually thought about what the episode highlighting Iroh's past should look like. During the the two last episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the audience is introduced to Iroh's amazing abilities, making him a more likeable character in the show, which is why Iroh's past should be left a mystery. The writers did, however, showcase the awesome fighting skills Iroh possesses. I personally agree with the Avatar community's wishes on Iroh's past, but the writers felt that the mystery surrounding this awesome character makes him a more appealing character in the show. Many characters on the show reference a lot of the great deeds and accomplishments Iroh did in his time, so this character's past becomes a mystery people want to know about. The viewers also get to know that Iroh was a Fire Nation general, who abandoned the siege of Ba Sing Se after his son died. The show revealed very little other than that Iroh had a son who died during a siege of the earth kingdom capital: Ba Sing Se. Ever since the start of the series, Iroh was a fan-favourite, so many people wanted to know about his past. In the series, Iroh is the uncle and firebending mentor to one of the main characters: Zuko.
They thought of making an episode that highlighted the past of a mysterious character, Iroh. In the early years of creating Avatar, the creators threw around an idea I very much would have like to see.
